Erin Express 2016 | Philly’s Biggest Bar Crawl is Back

Accept No Imitations!

I’m happy to announce that Small Talk Media has been asked again to lend a hand in marketing the Official Erin Express. This year we’re happy to announce that there will be specials at all of the participating bars for everybody’s favorite Erin Express beverages; Jameson, Miller Lite and Red Bull!
If you’re not familiar, Erin Express is a St. Paddys day bar crawl that’s been going strong for 30 years. The owners of Cavanaugh’s and Smokey Joes decided that it would be a good idea to order up 10 buses and have them rotate between 15 bars on 2 consecutive weekends surrounding St. Paddys day weekend. The idea caught on and the Erin Express has been a raging success ever since.
This year’s buses will run on March 6th for the official warm up crawl and then again on March 12th.
The buses will run continuously from 12pm – 5:30pm.
The buses are FREE, but I would bring a mountain of cash so you can afford Jamo shots, Miller Lite bottles and RBVs! And don’t forget to buy a round for the ladies, everybody gets loose on the Erin Express.
The buses will stop at each bar on the list every 15 minutes. All you need to do to participate is go to a participating bar, have a drink and jump on the bus when it pulls up outside.

The Complete List of Bar & Restaurant Social Media Tips

Every business could use a boost in marketing, whether it’s selling a product or a service. In the case of restaurants, it happens to be both food and service. Running a restaurant can be immensely challenging. Using the best Restaurant Equipment would help make everything run smoother. Being able to show people that your restaurant is the place they want to eat (with Instagram pictures of fantastic food and shiny Nella Cutlery), is the root of your marketing, and social media should be your main conduit. So if you wish to make your restaurant look the best it can be and bring in new customers via Social Media, then check out 30 tips and recipes for sweet Social Media marketing success!

Social Media Branding

The most fundamental part of your Social Media marketing is having the audience recognize your brand. By having a carefully designed brand to carry the good name of your restaurant in Social Media, you showcase an image of class and professionalism, which is very important.
Know Your Target Audience
Be aware of what kind of establishment you run and aim for the people who are most likely to visit your restaurant. Whether you are a diner or a fancy high-class establishment, you should always be building an audience-focused Social Media marketing strategy.
Scope Out Your Competition’s Social Media
It’s important to be aware of what your competition may be doing with their social media, what new ideas they’re incorporating, and whatever they’re doing better than you. Have someone do a Social Content Audit for your site and Social Profile Audit for your pages.
Maintain Visual Consistency
This goes with your brand as it helps customers quickly identify with your posts. The colors, fonts, image quality, and overall visual theme should go well with your brand and be consistent across all social media platforms you are in. If you don’t have time to create social media images, you can always hire good designers to do it for you.
Spruce Up Your Pages
Going with the previous tip, you should put up cover images and other stuff on your Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as fill in all the details to help your audience know what you’re all about, where you are, and so on.
Do Facebook Sponsored Posts
Sponsored posts are basically ads on Facebook that show up like any other post, but can be visible to a target audience as a suggestion for them to like and follow. Go to Facebook insights and pick the best stories among your posts. It could be a video showcasing your customers and members, news on your latest’s offers, or even a contest you want your audience to participate in.
Target Your Ads at Your Local Area
For restaurants, any Social Media platform’s geotargeting option may be the most valuable ad you could run. Market to places near where your restaurant is to get a higher conversion off your marketing. Consider moms, millenials and mobile diners to be your most valuable targets.

Pick Your Main Platform(s)
While the previous tip helps you become more visible online, you may want to focus your social media efforts in one or two of them for best effect. Facebook and Instagram seem to be restaurant favorites these days, with Snapchat jumping up in popularity as well.
Put Your Brand on Every Image and Video
Post It does not have to be a gigantic logo displayed everywhere. Just have it in a corner of an image, visible but discreet. As for videos, just have an intro that is a few seconds long.
Make Use of Different Social Media Platforms
Do whatever you can to reach as wide of an audience as you can. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are a given, but you can also get into Foursquare, Yelp, Groupon, Snapchat, and others to boost your chances too.
Some of the newest platforms, like TikTok, can help you to advertise your restaurant to younger audiences. You may even want to have a look at places similar to – https://bumped.in/buy-tiktok-followers/, to find out how you can find followers quickly, so you can create videos at your own pace.
Be Authentic
The one thing that will help your brand the most is authenticity. Being genuine with your intentions and your actions in the restaurant and in social media is a long-term strategy that pays great dividends in time.

Social Media Content

This forms the meat of your social media marketing as you provide value to the audience by consistently posting high-quality content. In order to get value from the people, you must first give value to them through rich and interesting content.
Post Menu Items
You can post images of your menu items on Facebook and/or Twitter and include a link to the whole menu for those who may be interested.
Social Media Tips Philadelphia Digital Marketing Agency
Showcase Your Food and Services on Instagram
Since diners post pictures of food on Instagram nowadays, you should do so as well to show off what your restaurant has to offer. Other Instagram users can then see your food and be encouraged to check your place out.
Use Trending and Niche Hashtags
Hashtags are great for both utility and visibility. Trending hashtags expose you to a huge audience, while niche hashtags help potential customers within your area to find you.
Post More Videos
People always appreciate good video content. You can do things like showing how your cooks prepare your food or how your waiters conduct their service.
Practice Employee Appreciation
Similar to the previous tip, you can post content featuring your staff doing what they do. This lets customers see how much you care not just about your customers, but also the people who work in your restaurant.
Lists, Lists, Lists
Another thing people like are list articles. You can post something like “Top 5 Foods for Mother’s Day” or something else that is timely, offering information to the audience while still advertising your restaurant.
Images with Quotes
These are also popular in social media. While a picture is worth a thousand words, a quote can actually enhance the impact of that image. As long as it fits the image and resonates with the audience, it should do well.
Promos and Updates
Patrons of your establishment would like to know if you have new stuff going on, so provide updates on your primary social media outlets to let them know if you have a great discount or days when the place will be closed and so on.
Keep It Fun and Friendly
There is no need to be serious with your posts; restaurants are places where people go to relax and enjoy good food, after all. Inject some lighthearted humor into your content; casual, but not tacky. You’ll be surprised how well people take to it.
Be Consistent
Have a schedule for posting on social media. You may be able to automate your system, but it won’t do well if you don’t have a steady stream of relevant content at reasonable intervals. If you ever need a Social Content calendar, let us know – we have the best content chefs in town!

Social Media Engagement

Content may get the people interested, but it’s engagement that will make them stay interested and come back for more. Communicating with customers and showing that you care about them is an act that pays for itself and it adds ‘value’ to your overall branding.
Have Someone Read Comments
It can be tough to stay engaged since the negative criticism may get to you. If this is a problem, yet social media marketing is still important, then assign a social media manager to do it for you.
Let Customers Know You’re on Social Media
You don’t have to shout it out loud, but you can have your Facebook page or Instagram profile on your menu or on signs to make them aware of your online presence.
Social Media Tips Philadelphia Digital Marketing Agency
Ask Questions to Customers
Whether through comments or asking them to post with a specific hashtags, ask them about your service, their favorite menu item, and so on. You can learn a lot about your customers’ tastes and preferences this way.
Conduct Photo Contests
Have customers post their best pictures of your food online with a specific hashtag. You can then reward the winners with a free meal, gift certificates, or so on.
Have Giveaways
It’s one of the oldest, simplest, and most effective ways to get an audience engaged. For a restaurant, a giveaway should be done in a way that can be done seamlessly within the establishment.
Reward Customers Who Check-in with Location-based Networks
Show gratitude for those who check in with networks like Foursquare by providing exclusive discounts and other perks. This can encourage others to check-in as well.
Encourage Reviews
Customers appreciate establishments that value their input, so have them review your restaurant through platforms like Yelp in order to get feedback that can help improve your service.
Use Calls to Action
Humbly request your audience to follow, like, share, and comment whenever possible. Don’t be incessant about it; just drop it in whenever you have the chance and show them that you do care about your audience.
Keep Track of Your Followers
With the better analytics tools available in Facebook and other platforms these days, it’s much easier to track what they like and don’t like. It’s also a part of feedback in a way, so pay attention to that data.
Make Customers Feel at Home
What holds true in the restaurant is the same in social media. Being in the hospitality industry means being cordial and welcoming to customers. Thank them for their patronage and they will keep coming back.

Front Street Cafe Opening in Fishtown| Press Release

Front Street Cafe Logo

Front Street Café plans to nourish, sustain Fishtown community

Philadelphia, PA –The Front Street Café, a vibrant new eatery opening on the corner of Thompson and Front streets, is the latest on a growing list of restaurants revitalizing the community of Philadelphia. There are so many new places to eat and drink in Philadelphia, such as different cafes and even some bakery options in the area. Places like The Front Street Café are just one of the many new franchises opening their doors up to the public.
Drawing inspiration from the unique character of the neighborhood, the creators of the Front Street Café aspire to do more than serve great food. From its inception, the restaurant has been designed to nourish this growing community, satisfying both body and spirit from sun up to lights out.
Long-time Fishtown resident Nicole Barclay, was driven by a strong sense of place and purpose to create a restaurant built around fresh, sustainable ingredients, with ample choices for people who have dietary preferences for health or lifestyle reasons. If you’re inspired by Nicole’s passion to start a coffee business, there’s no reason you couldn’t look at beginning your own. Often, starting a coffee shop can be difficult. This is usually because it’s not that easy to get customers coming to your business instead of some of the bigger coffee companies. However, there’s always the route of franchise opportunities instead of marketing a brand new coffee business. One of the best tips for opening a coffee shop is to ensure that potential customers can see inside the store. This can be done by installing Storefront doors to your shop, helping customers to decide whether or not to enter your cafe. This should help business as customers will want to sit inside a bright coffee shop, not a dark one. Those big windows and doors can usually be seen in most coffee shops, so they must help attract customers!
Nicole’s USP for this coffee shop is that the juice bar and coffee shop will open early to serve morning commuters, offering freshly made juices, smoothies, coffee from Counter Culture Coffee, as well as grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches, just one block away from Girard Station.
Casual brunch service will begin early and run through mid-afternoon seven days a week, with a menu offering sandwiches, salads, burgers … and breakfast tacos with more than 18 topping choices, including heirloom tomatoes, organic baby kale, mushroom bacon, avocado and nacho cashew cheese. All of the ingredients down to the condiments are made in-house or sourced organically and sustainably. Free WiFi is offered in a comfortable second-floor community space overlooking the El, while a backyard garden retreat has table seating for 80.
A full bar will serve creative cocktails made with freshly squeezed juices and local ingredients, an array of craft beers drawing from both local and west-coast breweries, and a selection of organic and biodynamic wines designed to match the menu and pair well with artisanal cheese selections sourced from creameries across the U.S.
The dinner menu puts a fresh spin on comfort food, including:

  • Wild Rice Collard Dolmas: with citrus hemp dressing.
  • Avocado Citrus Salad: Organic baby kale, avocado, mango, radish greens, hemp, pumpkin seeds, citrus jalapeno dressing
  • Mediterranean Tofu: Pan-seared fennel, sage, chili-rubbed tofu, wilted garlic kale, fresh tomato marinara, salt-cured olives and crispy capers
  • Heirloom Tomato Zucchini Lasagna: Thinly sliced zucchini, Macadamia ricotta, basil-arugula pesto, sundried tomato, olive oil
  • Organic Rotisserie Half Chicken: Orange-brined chicken, roasted baby potatoes, stewed collard greens, chicken jus, house-made biscuits

“We really want to have a neighborhood café where people can eat many times a week, and instead of weighing them down, it actually makes them healthier,” Nicole said.
The menu at the Front Street Cafe was created by Chef Andrew Petruzelli (XIX at the Bellevue, Grand Hyatt DC, Knock)
“The concept for our cuisine is very much related to health and happiness,” Andrew said. “We would like for people to be able to dine here daily and be better for it, by providing them with the best possible options for food they know and love.”
The space Front Street Café will occupy is one of the few 19th-century brick buildings to survive along the Front Street train corridor. During design and construction, building owner and builder Lee Larkin retained all of the original architectural details, including an intricate 3rd story tin cornice and Schuylkill Pine hardwood floors. Almost all of the additional building components where sourced and reclaimed from old Philadelphia buildings. Steps were built from joists taken from a home being demolished at Temple University, while wooden beams for the outside bar came from a warehouse at 25th and Oxford. A display cabinet on the second floor pays homage to the history of Fishtown and the Riverwards by showcasing hundreds of pre-Civil War artifacts that were discovered under the property during construction.
“Everything in this place has a story to tell,” Lee said. “And the story of this restaurant is tied to the story of this neighborhood – refreshed, revitalized and bursting with energy.”
About The Front Street Cafe
Front Street Café is located at 1253 N. Front Street, on the corner of Thompson Street, in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The coffee shop and juice bar open at 6 a.m. Breakfast and brunch service runs from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. seven days a week. Dinner service runs from 4-10 p.m., with a late-night menu available until closing. A second-floor community room that seats 60 is available for private events. Epic Restaurant Response to Brat Yelp Reviewer

One of the offerings of Small Talk Media is “Reputation Management” were we make sure that top review sites have nice things to say about our clients instead of what you see below. Once in awhile we do find a particularly terrible Yelper. This person is easily identified as their reviews are completely baseless. The reviewer below is especially bad and I have no problem sharing her personal page so you can let her know yourself. In this situation the Restaurant does something even Yelp says you should never do, they defend themselves. While normally this just makes the restaurant owner look stupid in this case it’s completely justified. Enjoy..
Sonal B Yelp Profile

Voltaire

Review by Sonal B
 10/1/2014

Most unfriendly and arrogant restaurant in KC.
Just called Voltaire to try to order some food because we’re in a late business meeting across the street.  First, they refused to answer our question about what type of broth is used in the risotto.  Then they said they won’t pack food to go.  My husband spoke to the manager and explained that we’re in a conference room across the street, and asked if they can pack our dinner (which we would pick up).  The hostess flat-out refused to answer our question about the food or to try and work with us so we could get food in our meeting.  My husband asked to speak with the manager.   The manager, Jamie, said, “our food is plated beautifully, and we can’t put it in a ‘to go’ container.”  So thanks, Jamie, we’ll just starve. (What the manager said is just not true by the way–we’ve eaten there before, and they did pack our food to go.)  When my husband said that he was going to post a Yelp review about the way the restaurant was treating us, the manager questioned, “Are you a grown man and an adult?”
Yes, Jamie, we are grown adults, and we do not do business with people who behave like you do.
We regularly travel to NYC and eat at a variety of restaurants, which are more than happy to accommodate people by packing food to go.  This restaurant thinks they’re too good for their customers.  They will soon learn that if you ignore your customers, they’re going to start ignoring you.  I would not even give this place one star after this experience, and I’m dismayed by their unprofessional and arrogant behavior.
Response by the Restaurant
I sincerely apologize that we don’t offer “take-out” food at our restaurant.  Being a Yelp user, I’m sure you were aware that on our Yelp business page, on the right side of the screen, it lists details about our establishment.  There is an item listed “Take-Out : No”.  We have never offered take-out food as we believe the food we prepare should be presented as we see fit, (usually) on a plate inside the dining room.
As for the risotto, its made with a vegetable stock – this dish is vegetarian, and I’m certain that who you were speaking with wanted to make extra certain the information provided to you was accurate.
On your previous visits, you say you have witnessed dishes being boxed up as proof that we provide “take-out” food. Although we do allow our guests to take their uneaten food with them in to-go boxes after they have dined with us, we have never offered “take-out” food.
If you were actually starving, as in a life threatening condition requiring nutritional sustenance, we would be happy to assist you..we do make exceptions for emergency situations.
Our general manager did question the age/maturity of your husband after he became combative and threatened us with a negative Yelp review if we did not alter our operational practice and provide him with “take-out” food.  15 minutes later you indeed came through with this threat.  I can assure you that we don’t offer “take-out” food because we feel we are “too good” for our customers; we just prefer to have our guests dine with us, allowing for the proper presentation (and temperature) of their fare that has been skillfully prepared by our kitchen.
I am very pleased that you frequent New York.  We travel often as well.  And I can assure you that there are many restaurants in NYC that do not offer “take-out” food.  Although there are many other options that do – in Kansas City as well (Go Royals!).
It was made REPEATEDLY clear in the conversation with your husband that he is a lawyer.  Let me provide the following analogy/role reversal…it may assist in clarifying your request.
YOU: I want to hire you to handle my divorce.
ME: But, I’m a tax lawyer.
YOU: I don’t care…I want you to handle my divorce.
ME: Sorry, but I don’t practice that form of law.
YOU: Just handle my divorce, I’ll pay you…it will be fine.
ME: I don’t feel comfortable providing my services as a divorce lawyer, as I am a tax lawyer.  You won’t receive the service you are wanting or that I am willing to provide.
YOU: Well, I travel to NYC often, and in NYC, Tax lawyers handle my divorce litigation all the time. I don’t know what the problem is.  I’ve told you I’m a chef, right?
ME: Well, that’s nice sir, but I really can’t help you.  It goes against my business practice.
YOU: If you don’t represent me in my divorce, I’m going to post it all over the [most frequented social media review of lawyers] that you refused to provide me with the service I requested, and make baseless allegations about how you are very pretentious, arrogant and unprofessional. I will also try to prevent you from getting any additional business by damning you on said social media platform. Now will you represent me?
ME: I don’t take kindly to threats.
Thanks for your feedback.  We will let you know if we decide in the future to practice divorce law, I mean, provide “take-out” food.

The Wrap Shack gets a Major Facelift

Philadelphia, PA, The Wrap Shack at 120 S. 18th Street has been regarded as the Rittenhouse Dive bar for quite some time now. They’ve always had one of the best selections of craft beer, they’re bar food is solid and they have plenty of TVs to catch the games.

With the fall quickly approaching owner Scott Hockfield decided that it was time to make a big move and completely update the Wrap Shack. Some of his updates include; a brand new bar that adds more seats and foot room, new bar shelving, 30 new liquors with a heavy focus on aged bourbon, some great signed local sports memorabilia, new menu items and a bright new awning you can see from Rittenhouse square. Scott estimated that his upgrades to the small space at 18th and Sansom totaled $20k.
